I am a 21 year old Technician General Extra radio operator. I am a hacker by trade as an IT Consultant and Security Enthusiast as well as a general hobbyist of many trades. I first became interested in wireless technology when I was very young, playing with my grandmothers crystal based police scanner, I always found it so interesting and some what magical that I could just pull signals in from the air. I had my first television when I was 14 years old and the first thing I did was learn that a wire could be used as an antenna to pull video out of the air.
I’ve always been interested in wireless technology and with the advent of new computer technologies I’ve come to love working with 2.4GHz and other unlicensed spectrum, I again have a scanner, this time a Pro-97 radio shack model. About 3 years ago I found out that DECT 6.0 based phones had be cracked and was easily interceptable but the hardware was quite hard to obtain, just a few years later I have that hardware and am capable of picking up these signals with nothing more than a laptop and an antenna.
I started watching BSOD (bastard sons of dial-up) http://bsodtv.org and watched some of the segments on Amateur Radio, a service that not only allows voice and cw (mores code/constant wave) but packet and digital data, not to mention with as little as a Technician license I gain Part-97 usage on the 2.4GHz band on the lower end of the unlicensed spectrum.
I’m currently a member of the Ashtabula County Amateur Radio Club K8CY and the local ARES group, I have a lot to learn and am studying for my General.
